Mental Health Promotion (MHP)
Mental Health Promotion (MHP) with its two components, Educational Events and Information and Referral Services, provides needed information and education to the community.
The MHP program, in collaboration with persons with mental illness, their family members, the business community, and professionals and social service providers, develops and tailors educational programs. Information and Referral services provide needed education to the public including family members, professionals and persons with mental disorders.
Services
- Educational Events and Speaker’s Bureau such as workshops, seminars, health fairs and Lunch-n-Learns tailored to the audience.
- Presentations in which MHP works with individual groups and with the community to plan, design and deliver customized Educational Events that meet the needs and interests of the audience.
- Information and Referral
- Self-Help and Support Group Directory of support groups and other resources.
- Mental Help Line for information and assistance on mental health resources and support in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area and beyond. Operates Monday—Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (913) 281-2221.
- Literature and Lending Library on mental health issues.
Goals
- To promote mental wellness by educating the public on the practice of good mental health strategies that improve and protect their mental health.
- To increase awareness about mental health conditions, when professional help may be needed, and what resources are available.
- To improve access, utilization, and quality of treatment and support services by providing training and education for professionals and the general public.
Successes
After our presentations:
- 95 % of participants increase their knowledge, understanding and empathy of the topic.
- 85 % of adult learners express intent to utilize information and/or skills gained.
