About the Mental Health Association
of the Heartland

The Mental Health Association of the Heartland's mission is to promote the mental health of the community and improve the quality of life of persons with mental illness, through advocacy, education, and support. MHAH promotes mental wellness, improves care and treatment of persons with mental illness, and works to eliminate stigma associated with mental illness through grassroots citizen-action efforts and non-clinical support. MHAH's primary service area is the greater Kansas City metropolitan area and surrounding counties, including Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte, and Ray counties in Missouri, and Johnson, Leavenworth, and Wyandotte counties in Kansas.

Community and private mental health care providers, the Social Security Administration, legal aid, consumer-run organizations and advocacy groups, persons with mental illness and family members refer individuals to MHAH. Advocacy is provided at the local, state, and federal level for Kansas and Missouri residents.

The association's Board of Directors is representative of the bi-state metro-area. The Board includes professionals and community volunteers who are court commissioners, educators, business persons, mental health providers, persons with mental illness, and family members of persons with mental illness.
