Director, Rental Assistance Programs
Mental Health America of the Heartland currently seeks a full-Time Director, Rental Assistance Programs. Bachelor’s degree in related field is required. Successful candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, manage multiple deadlines and utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and QuickBooks software applications. Knowledge of mental health and community resources and experience overseeing an annual budget are strongly preferred.
Position requires the candidate to be compassionate and professional while working with program participants, landlords and the Missouri Department of Mental Health. Salary range $28-30K. EOE.
Responsibilities: All aspects in processing subsidized HUD housing vouchers for the Shelter Plus Care Program.

Position:
Wellness & Support Advocate - Housing
Mental Health America of the Heartland currently seeks 2 part-time Wellness and Support Advocates (WASA); the positions are located in Midtown, Kansas City, MO. and Kansas City, KS.
The WASA is responsible for providing peer advocacy and support to people with mental illness living in permanent supportive housing. The primary focus of support will be in the areas of wellness, recovery and maintaining permanent housing. The duties include the delivery of professional peer support in both individual and group settings and assisting with program operations.
Qualified applicants must have
- GED or high school diploma;
- Personal lived experience with recovery from mental illness;
- Certification as a Peer Specialist in Missouri or Kansas, preferred.

Position: Coordinator, Peer Drop-In Services Mental Health America of the Heartland currently seeks a part-time Coordinator, Peer Drop-In Services for the Midtown area of Kansas City, MO. The Coordinator will provide peer advocacy and support to people with mental illness at a consumer operated support program.
The primary focus of support will be in the areas of wellness, recovery and community integration. In addition to direct services, the Coordinator must also ensure that the Drop-In Center is operated in a manner that meets funding guidelines and reflects the expressed wishes of the service recipients. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the delivery of professional peer support in individual and group settings, assisting with program operations, developing and maintaining day-to-day program activities about mental health consumer recovery and on occasion, some supervision of volunteers.
Qualified applicants must have
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent;

- Strong written and verbal skills are required;
- Certification as a Peer Specialist in Missouri or Kansas, preferred.

Position: Bilingual Wellness & Support Advocate
Compassionate Ear
Mental Health America of the Heartland currently seeks a part-time bilingual Wellness and Support Advocate (WASA). The position, an extension of our Compassionate Ear Warm Line, will be staffed by Spanish-speaking volunteers with mental illness who are willing to share their personal experiences of hope and recovery.
The bilingual WASA is responsible for assisting the Peer Manager in the communication, recruitment and training of Spanish-speaking volunteers who will answer the telephone line and provide support to Spanish-speaking people with mental illness. Marketing and promotion of the Warm Line is required. This part-time job is 20 hours per week and includes some evening and weekend hours, as needed.
The successful candidate must be able to work in a team environment, believe in and promote recovery and share their lived experience to enhance the recovery of others. Qualified applicants must have
- GED or high school diploma;
- Personal experience with recovery from mental illness;
- Speak both Spanish and English fluently;
- An automobile with valid license and insurance for transporting volunteers;
- Certification as a Peer Specialist in Missouri or Kansas, preferred.
