Community Education

The Community Education Department promotes the mental health of the community by increasing awareness of mental illness and decreasing the stigma of treatment.

MHAH plans, designs, and delivers affordable professional continuing education seminars, lecture series for persons with mental illness and their families, and workshops for the public. Programs are tailored to meet the needs and interests of the audience and designed to increase knowledge and skills. Community education is provided to:

  • Professionals including social workers, psychologists, nurses, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and other "first responders",
  • Social, fraternal, church and other groups,
  • School staff and students,
  • Community organizations, and
  • Workplaces and professional associations.

MHAH sponsors a Speaker's Bureau that matches individual presenters with educational needs of various groups. Request a program or schedule a speaker, Speaker's Bureau Request Form. To volunteer to make presentations on behalf of Mental Health Association of the Heartland as a member of the Speaker's Bureau, click here.
